Marketing Improvements Optimi Ltd (Miol) has developed, and is successfully marketing an IT-based product planning system to life science companies; the system is attracting global sales interest as it offers a new and distinctive capability to both define and target commercial activities.

The Miol approach delivers an effective and efficient evidence-based sales and marketing process - through a combination of in-house and Web-based tools for data analysis and planning; hence this process delivers substantial value by improving marketing and sales performance, the management of regulatory risks and critically reducing costs.

MIOL was set up in 2004 by Managing Director Robert Davison and Commercial Director Anthony Culley; the firm's ability to demonstrate sustained growth based upon confirmed orders has attracted support from 3en Ventures.

Robert Davison said: “The impetus to launch the business within an increasingly demanding pharma market was the opportunity to offer a fully integrated market and brand planning system which integrates all aspects of ERP within a single modular multi-country structure; this has been a difficult feat to achieve technically.

We have spent the last two and a half years refining our service to ensure we offer excellence in technology, system design and client service.”

MIOL Commercial Director Anthony Culley the said: “3en has been totally professional and fully supportive throughout the investment process. The thoughtful and common sense approach of both Nick and the Barclay’s team on the business issues facing a new venture, inspired a level of confidence that we had chosen the right partners at this point in our commercial development.”

Robert also commented: “The motivation to seek venture capital was driven by a realization that the opportunity was simply too large to be met from capital which could be generated within the firm. The process has been complex, and at times quite taxing, but we have developed a complete refinancing package which will meet our capital needs for the foreseeable future.”

Nick Sharpe Chief Investment Officer of 3en Ventures commented, “given the potential offered within the pharma sector by MIOL and their existing roster of blue-chip global pharma clients, growth in sales and profitability is predicted to increase substantially during 2007.”

Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development Cllr Andrew Finney said: “We are delighted to see that 3en has completed its third investment; the council looks forward to the creation of a significant new enterprise and associated job opportunities within the borough of Basingstoke & Deane.”
