Web:www.mwrinfosecurity.comMWR is a Basingstoke-based firm that tests the security systems used within the private sector, and was established in June 2003. MWR offers a suite of security techniques that brings a security capability to even the smallest systems and removes the need to recruit and retain specialised staff.
Typically MWR engineers pose as would-be hackers - having been given sign-off by the client, and will try every possible means (technical or otherwise) to gain access to the client’s information held on their IT systems. This may even require an engineer to gain non-approved access to the client building, bypass security, and carry out onsite ‘information gathering’ before leaving the site undetected.
The driving forces behind MWR are Ian Shaw the technical director and his commercial director Alex Fidgen; the firm's ability to demonstrate sustained growth has attracted support from 3en Ventures and based upon confirmed orders, growth in sales and profitability will accelerate during 2008.
Ian Shaw commented: “the impetus to launch the business within an increasingly demanding IT security market was the opportunity to offer a specialised technical security service to support in-house IT teams in the battle with increasingly sophisticated hi-tech crime. This has been a difficult feat to achieve technically. We have spent the last two and a half years refining our offering to ensure a uniform service based upon excellence of technology, system design, and client service.”
Alex Fidgen the MWR commercial director added “3en has been totally professional and fully supportive throughout the investment process. The thoughtful and common sense approach of both Nick and the HSBC team on the business issues facing a new venture inspired a level of confidence that we had chosen the best partners for this crucial stage of our development.”
Rafi Razzak Chair of 3enFML commented “This investment is the culmination of many months planning and is testament to the dedication and hard work of those within 3en and also the councils desire to support local early-stage technology organisations.”
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council Leader Cllr Paul Harvey said: “The decision to invest directly in venture capital support was taken following extensive analysis of the local capital available to new businesses starting up and consultation with technology entrepreneurs
We are determined to support the real advantage the area offers in terms of skill base and cost of operation by giving an opportunity to find risk capital and get management support."
